Blair School of Music presents a Master Series recital featuring faculty member Nathan Cheung with Eric Tran, performing as Happy Dog Duo, Sunday, February 2, 8:00 p.m., in Turner Recital Hall.

This program features two themes: Schubert and modern music. In fact, Happy Dog Duo will perform this repertoire for the Schubert and Modern Music Competition held in Graz, Austria in mid-February.

Happy Dog Duo has performed four-hands classics, originals, and transcriptions for two decades, with a focus on bringing humor and joy to the classical music world. Performing in Canada, Korea, China, and 20 US states, the pair has appeared on Aspen Public Radio, WQXR, and NPR. Recent invitations include guest artist performances at Stanford University, the Chautauqua Institution, and the National Federation of Music Clubs Convention. Performances with orchestra include the Stanford Symphony Orchestra, Diablo Symphony Orchestra, Vallejo Symphony, and the Pittsburg Piano Festival Orchestra.

Happy Dog Duo was awarded 1st prize and Abild American Music Award at the Ellis Duo-Piano Competition, hosted by the National Federation of Music Clubs; 1st prize at the MTNA-Stecher and Horowitz Two Piano Competition; and 1st prize at the Ohio International Duet and Duo Piano Competition. The performers are among the few piano duos who have performed on the only Pleyel Double Grand piano in the Western Hemisphere.

Outside of music, Cheung and Tran both enjoy solving puzzles, watching Japanese cartoons, and frantically scribbling life plans on whiteboards.
